The addition is a critical project for the region's hospitality industry. Due to a lack of exhibit space the center has over the last five years turned away about 350 events worth $2.1 billion, according to Griffin. Recent studies show the addition will generate revenues of about $260 million a year, up from an earlier estimate of $235 million.
